The Sunday Mood is back! If you haven’t heard of them yet make sure to listen to the Local Natives. From their self funded album, Gorilla Manor, they’re a band that’ll surely have your feet tapping along to the beats. This week’s edition features Wide Eyes. This song quickly became a favourite of mine and is especially great for those in between days.
I first became aware of Barcelona when I landed on a video for the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium in Japan. It was just perfect when I watched the two play together, and instantly loved the rest of the album. They are a band of three from Seattle, often creating piano-based songs. The songs are soothing and comforting, and you can lay in bed dreaming with them. Enjoy this week’s Sunday Mood Get Up, Get Up, Get Up by Barcelona.
I’m constantly looking for new artists/bands to listen to and add to my ever growing music library. One of my favorite ways to discover new music is through movie soundtracks. There’s something perfect about a movie soundtrack that’s put together well. So it’s only natural that I came across Band of Horses while watching Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist. This week’s Sunday Mood is Factory by Band of Horses. I love how they kick off their latest album with a wonderful, upbeat tune. You know it’s a great song when you can’t stop tapping along to the beat.
I’ve always been a fan of Sixpence None the Richer. So when I heard Fauxliage I recognized Leah Nash’s voice right away. Fauxliage was formed by members of the Canadian electronic group, Delirium – with Leah Nash as vocals. The echoing sound is quite refreshing and it’s especially a great song to listen to while driving on the highway with the windows rolled down. Enjoy this week’s Sunday Mood All Alone by Fauxliage.
Olafur Arnalds is this week’s Sunday Mood. The song Ljosio translated, means The Light. Though his songs may not contain lyrics, the melodies are moving. This particular song is tender, sweet and quite uplifting so take a listen.
Sea Sew is Lisa Hannigan’s debut, solo album. Before her solo career, she sang in collaboration with other artists such as Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol) and Damien Rice. The beauty of Lisa’s voice is that she beckons you to listen to her story. You’ll also find that the instrumentals in this song is uplifting and comforting, reminding you of home. And as her voice coos you to a standstill, you feel as though everything will be okay in the end. So take some comfort in Lisa Hannigan’s song Lillie.
Arco is a UK band whose sound is silent and strong. Their lyrics ring in your ears while lulling your heart to a steady rhythm. You’ll never grow tired of their songs even as the seasons change. So take a few minutes to listen to Arco’s Perfect World. You’ll discover that there are musicians who still stay true to their art.

Oren Lavie first debuted in Europe in 2007. Three years later, he’s debuted in the U.S. All his songs are wonderfully built. From sound lyrics to a voice that manages to draw you nearer to him and the soft melodies. So when I heard Oren Lavie’s Trouble Don’t Rhyme I had to share this with you. When you listen to this song you’ll see that he’s calling out to you. It’s such an intimate experience.
I was in high school when I first heard of Rooney. I loved them instantly. This week’s Sunday Mood is Losing All Control by Rooney. The song starts out a little slow but picks up pace in the second half. Their style reminds me very much of the Beatles, Oasis mixed in with some Weezer (perhaps even some Sloan). I have to say that I like Robert Schwartzman’s voice for this band. Enjoy the lyrics and rock out with some Rooney. Loving the guitars in this song!
While working away on Friday I came across Keren Ann’s song Not Going Anywhere and I had to stop to listen to her song. Her voice is soft and quiet but evokes deep emotions. I probably listened to this song at least 10 times alone on Friday and each time I became more attached to her lyrics and the delicate melody.
