Tanti Baci No. 8 – I Heart Coral

Recently, I’ve managed to fall madly in love with coral. The colour is absolutely stunning and makes me feel like summer’s around the corner. That’s obviously when you pull out all your pretty dresses and your wonderful, ever so faithful sandals to walk the streets of downtown. This beauty of a colour is accompanied by soft off whites as well as warm browns and golds to help bring out the simplicity of the piece. I’d have to say all that I’m missing here may be a straw hat.

This week’s Tanti Baci post has been inspired by Chanel No. 203 – Miami Peach nail polish.

A. Chanel – No. 203 Miami Peach Nail Polish

There’s a slight shimmer to this nail polish and the more coats you put on, the darker the colour is. I use 3 coats to get a darker coral,  peach colour. I can’t get enough of it!

B. Anthropologie – Fretwork Flowers Cuff

This piece is simply beautiful. It’s not too flashy and not too dull. It also adds to the dress – can you say Greek goddess?

C. Kate Spade – Big Apple Bon Shopper

I’ve been a fan of Kate Spade since the beginning of 2000. This bag is a part of her current collection. With a hint of gold, you can dress it up or down.

D. Study by Tara St. James

While rifling through issue No. 7 of Boho magazine, I came across this dress and knew I had to include it in this post. I love how the detailing of the rope makes the dress look chic. Not to mention this dress is eco friendly which is definitely a plus. Her first clothing line is called The Square Project.

E. Stella McCartney – Braided Raffia and Rope Goya Halter Flat

I’d thought I’d finish the outfit with the addition of this lovely sandal. The design is simple but the braiding and bronze colour combination just warms me up. I’m ready for a summer date!

Weekends never seem to be long enough. And I’ve been falling behind on blogging a bit. This weekend I had the chance to spend some time on my music. With the help of John and Kushmin I got one song done and another one that needs to be edited. But aside from music, I’ve been thinking of the palette I’d use for the summer products. The process itself takes the longest time because you want to make sure that all the products you produce are consistent and carry a similar theme across the board. Then there’s everything from paper to finishing that you have to consider that will either add to your product or take away from it. When you know what the limitations are it does help but it can sometimes be a little restricting.

So I  leave you with a word of happy Monday and plan on posting again this evening so come back to check out last week’s missed Tanti Baci post!

If you’ve ever looked for a song that could help wind you down from all the stress and chaos, this is the song. I’ve always loved Zero 7′s album Simple Things. This song happens to be from the same album and is titled Distractions. Even after 9 years I can’t say I’ve ever grown tired of the song. It’s one of my favourite songs to listen to on a day like today, when you know tomorrow brings Monday.

Thursdays are usually Tanti Baci posts but we’re running a little behind so we’ll have something up for you to view this weekend. We promise to show you a great new look!

In the meantime I wanted to share some updates with you. The summer products are slowly coming around and I hope to keep my end of March deadline. I have a few different ideas that I would like to test out. Currently, I’m entertaining the idea of foil printing. Once I’ve finalized on the design I have to move onto the stock (weight, colour and finish). I’m also very excited to introduce TPW’s first wedding invite set! We also do custom invites of if you have a wedding or dinner party coming up and are looking for something unique, email us at info@thepaperwhale.com.

We’ve also been busy finalizing the concepts of Something Borrowed as well as organizing the three month long posts focused on Weddings and Dinner Parties. From DIY crafts to interesting decorating ideas to clothes and gift ideas, we’re going to have fun this summer! If there’s something that you’d be interested in seeing as an inspiration board or perhaps even a theme, drop us a line.

The Bee’s Knees – Julie Davis

I first came across Julie while browsing through ETSY. Her photos caught my eye and I wanted to know more about the artist behind the lens. So naturally I got in contact with Julie to find a little more about her background in photography. Julie was first exposed to photography at the tender age of 12. As her sister went off to college, she left behind an old Minolta SLR . Julie in turn took this opportunity to sign up for Photography at school. She still remembers her teacher’s name – Mr. Caballo. It didn’t take long for Julie to fall in love with the feel of the camera and the weight of it in her hands, the way the light reflected off objects, the precision and repetition of developing film and making prints. So she continued to experiment with photography.

While living in Hawaii, she received a Canon EOS AE2 as a graduation present from her parents which lead to more exploring. Living on the islands became her communion with nature, an expression of love and awe for the beauty she was surrounded in. Since then, Julie has been pursuing photography with a passion.

Two years ago, she moved to Berlin, Germany where she has been able to focus all her time on developing herself as an artist. She is continually inspired by her surroundings and has found a way to relate and understand the crazy world we live in through her camera lens.

A Hint of Spring – Lola and Emily

Lola and Emily. I can’t help but picture two princesses twirling around in flowery dresses, and dainty shoes on a green pasture. No, the store doesn’t look like this but it does have a similar feminine, whimsical and flirty flare to it. A warm light draws you in from its glass windowpane, especially in the coldest of Montreal winters, and once you’re inside, it feels like gorgeous spring. The beautiful wooden bed frames, delicate gold necklaces, and luscious couture blend together to form styles ranging from an ‘edgy’ Lola to a ‘conservative’ Emily. Simply lavish.

Last winter TPW came up with a few designs for buttons. We didn’t end up selling them on ETSY but I plan on coming up with a few designs for the summer. They’re a great keepsake and can be pinned onto cards or onto clothes. The little details count and help to add a special touch to your party.

I first heard Ephemera two years ago. They’re a Norwegian band whose sounds are delicate as well as pretty. Today’s song, Balloons and Champagne is one of their softer songs. But I thought this song would help lighten your day seeing as how we’ve lost an hour in our day. I’m looking forward to longer, sun filled days!
