This week’s Sunday Mood is Nobody Knows Me At All by The Weepies. If you haven’t heard of them before you’re going to love their soft yet melodic sound. Their songs have you singing along and you can’t help but bob your head to the beats.

It’s been a hectic week and it seems like you can never do enough in one day. With March starting next week, the exciting 2010 Vancouver Olympics is ending soon. And even though summer seems a bit far today, I hope you can start off on the right foot and have a fun filled weekend! And check back later tonight for Jenn’s Photo Board Friday post.

Last week TPW introduced Nisee Made but this week I’d like to introduce Denise Holmes. The brains behind the wonderful illustrations you’ve seen thus far. She’s an illustrator and fellow stationary maker. She spends a good portion of her day researching, drawing, reading boooks, drinking tea with friends, knitting and taking photos. Denise is inspired by vintage children’s books, photographs of people she doesn’t quite know, unique apartment gardens, derelict thrift stores and is even inspired by her husband’s crazy ideas! Her drawings definitely provoke you to dream back to your childhood days of playing carelessly in the playground, running in the fields and playing tag. So, can you do a handstand?

This bi-weekly blog post will follow the adventures (and quiet musings) of Wendy the Cat. At fourteen pounds, she is slightly overweight but trying to make healthier choices. I found her at the Maryland SPCA, when I asked the volunteers to recommend a cat whose personality was firmly developed. As a “torbi,” a combination of a tortoiseshell and a tabby, Wendy possesses a rather unique coloring; her fur is orange and black and white arranged in odd patterns with an occasional discernible stripe. She is white-stomached and white-pawed. She is stoical, unfazed, but chases things when she thinks she has no witnesses. When she walks, she sways like a gypsy caravan.

When I first took her home, I opened the window so that she could experience the world. I didn’t have screens, so I had to hold her the whole time to keep her from going on the roof. I feel that all creatures should be exposed to fresh air. This includes both me and the cat. The poor cat. She was all excited. But now that she knows there’s something out there past the glass, she keeps trying to escape. She’ll push at the window handle with her face. And a few weeks after that, she figured out that the front door of my apartment leads to another new place, and so she keeps trying to run out. She hides behind the door or covertly under a chair and then darts at my legs in an attempt to get past. Forgive me for getting philosophical about this, but I wonder if she has a concept of when the doors will stop – does she know that once she’s through the apartment door, she’s still indoors (in the building) and that there’s another door, and then once she’s out that door, does she know there are no more doors? She doesn’t – I mean, because if I had never shown her that the window or door could open, she wouldn’t have known, and would have stayed contentedly indoors forever.

As a part of TPW’s 2010 Summer product line up I’ll be designing TPW’s first wedding set. And if I’m good there may be TWO full wedding sets. From wedding invites, reply cards, thank you cards, menus and table settings… the list can go on. And for some more exciting news, TPW will be doing its first ever Weddings and Parties themed summer posts. For the months of June, July and August TPW will be introducing new designers and artists to help you create that perfect setting. We all need a little inspiration from time to time. Can’t wait for the summer fun to begin!

It’s Sunday and what a way to wind down your weekend. February’s coming to an end this week and the Olympics in Vancouver has been exciting to watch. So here’s a tune to help make the transition to Monday more smooth. This week’s Sunday Mood is Fake Empire by The National.

There’s always something comforting about drinking tea. But tea parties are generally more fun. Meet Robin Styba. She’s a photographer whose work will be featured on TPW from time to time. But I think for this Saturday, Robin has the right idea – time for a tea party. Feels like spring is right around the corner!

Valentine’s Day may be over but it’s not the only day you can declare your love to someone special. You can always lock it up and toss the keys away on any given day just like these other couples have in the photo above.
